I would like to thank Fred Thorner for his years as Chapter President and thanks to Wayne Tusa who has done so much work as a foundation for our Alley Creek restoration. Fred will replace Wayne as the Chair of the Alley Creek Committee and continue his work as Chair of the Back the Brookie Committee. We hope that one day, Alley Creek will be a place for NYC school children to view trout in a coastal spring creek!
I've been appointed President by the chapter's Board of Directors in hopes our Cha
pter will better serve it's conservation mission. We plan to promote cooperative short and long-term projects with neighboring TU chapters and other conservation partners. We will also continue to have fun events like the recent Casting Clinic in Central Park and fishing trip to the Catskills for Members to enjoy and meet each other. I have an angling media background as a magazine staff writer and cameraman/co-producer for Larry Dahlberg's Hunt for Big Fish. In addition, I'm currently Vice President of the American Casting Association and a FFF Certified Casting instructor.
I'm proud to announce that the new NYC TU Chapter Vice President is now Duncan Blair. He has a Navy background and a BS in Environmental Science from Harvard and a long love of fly-fishing. I look forward to working with him to get the Chapter even more active.
Although New York City doesn't have home waters inhabited by salmonids to focus on, NYC TU is going to try to protect our region's natural resources from the various threats facing them. We hope you will find our chapter worthy of your financial support; we will ask for it. These funds will be aimed at projects we administer and we may also grant money for specific needs of the NYS Council of TU or other TU chapters. Another part of conservation is education, and we hope to become more involved in the Trout in the Classroom program with educational visits to schools.
Sincere thanks,
John Field
